Joseph Gregory Takes Lease on
Prince Albert Hotel
Joseph Gregory of Newcomb,
formerly of Ticonderoga, took possession Friday under lease of the Prince
Albert Hotel near the Tupper Lake Country Club golf course at Moody. He
leased the hotel from Daniel Flanders, present proprietor. Mr. Gregory is
thoroughly familiar with the management of Adirondack resorts through years
of experience, including a long term in charge of the popular Lake Harris
House at
Newcomb. The Prince Albert Hotel
was erected about 60 years ago—one of the earliest hostelries in this
section of the Adirondacks. It was run for a time by the famed "Uncle Mart,"
Moody, when it was known as the Mt. Morris House. He sold it to Pliny
Robbins, who is said to have put the first steam-boat on Big Tupper Lake,
bringing it at enormous expense from Lake Ontario. Robbins managed the hotel
for many years, selling it, in turn, to Colonel William Barbour. Others who
later acquired the hotel included Robert N. Page, Daniel Flanders and Mrs.
Theodore Nepton. |
